- FIFA World Cup Rewind series starts today, building up to Italy-Brazil from 1982
- Fans voted to select their favourite games from nine World Cups
- Entire games will be streamed 'live' on the official World Cup Facebook page
Over the last two weeks, FIFA gave fans across the world a chance to have their say, and decide which classic FIFA World Cup™ matches they can watch on the official FIFA World Cup Facebook page.
Fans had the choice of two matches, starting with Spain 1982 all the way up to Brazil 2014. The game with the most votes, would then be replayed in its entirety, alongside bonus video content from that particular competition, whetting the appetite ahead of Russia 2018. Today, we start the next phase of the series, going back to 1982.
During the Rewind series, the ‘Ready Reckoner’ on Mondays will look back at the best goals, players, hairstyles and more, from each respective World Cup. On Tuesdays, we’ll introduce the ‘Breakout Star’; Wednesdays will feature ‘Stars in 60 seconds’ and on Thursdays, we’ll review the routes of both teams, leading up to our featured match on the Friday.
On Friday 16 March at 16:00 CET, ‘Matchday Live’ will replay the 1982 clash between Italy and Brazil, which received the most votes. For younger fans, it will be a chance to witness the likes of Dino Zoff, Paolo Rossi, Zico, Socrates, and Falcao’s iconic goal celebration, maybe for the first time. For fans from that generation, it is a chance to rekindle some wonderful memories from a glorious July afternoon in Barcelona.
In the coming weeks, fans also voted to see:
- Mexico 1986: England-Argentina
- Italy 1990: Cameroon-Argentina
- USA 1994: Netherlands-Brazil
- France 1998: France-Brazil
- Korea/Japan 2002: USA-Mexico
- Germany 2006: France-Italy
- South Africa 2010: Uruguay-Ghana
- Brazil 2014: Brazil-Germany
